About This Project

OVERVIEW

This was a new build of a WordPress site for a kitchen remodeling company.  The owner came from a design background and had a clear vision for the site’s design.  My job was to establish hosting, stand-up a WordPress site, create customizations, build the basic page templates and site architecture and then turnover the site for self administration.

CHALLENGES

  • Since the client had a strong background in design and strong opinions about the site, matching the design provided required a lot of customization.  Many clients just rely on the design principles of the WP theme chosen, but this project was extremely bespoke.

OUTCOME

I assisted the client in choosing a hosting plan, installed WordPress and helped the client with acquiring a theme. Using the chosen theme, I built the basic header, footer and page template elements and created the necessary customizations.  I was able to match the desired design by employing the following:

  • Custom fonts via plugin
  • Custom CSS and HTML
  • Custom post types for projects
  • Advanced custom fields

Other elements that I delivered were:

  • Establishing email capability from the site (STMP plugin)
  • Installing basic spam and virus protection
  • Configuring scheduled backups of the site
  • Training, documentation and turnover
